ATS will be formed in the state soon, says CM
Chief Minister Shibu Soren, while speaking at the Chief Ministers conference in Delhi on Sunday, presided by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the issue of internal security of states, said that state has a strategy in place to deal with Naxals, but it will be implemented only gradually from the grass root level. He further said that the number of police personnel had jumped to 56000 from the 22000 at the time of creation of the state in 2000. The process of appointment is being implemented, he added. He said that three India Reserve Battalions out of five sanctioned by the centre have already been raised. CM claimed Anti Terrorist Squared (ATS) would soon come up in the state to check Naxal menace.

The Shibu Soren govt. should know that increasing the number of paramilitary will not solve the violence torn Adivasi state of Jharkhand. The violence will beget violence only, irrespective of its initiators. The chief factors of breeding naxalism in Jharkhand is backwardness. Instead of draining resources for erecting paramilitary forces it should be concentrate to erect the infrastructure in the villages. A awareness drive will be more appropriate than drive of hunting the naxalites, who often put foreword innocent villagers as human shield. The govt. should work towards making villages as informed ones by providing them regular newspapers, magazines, radio and tv sets etc, which will create a positive atmosphere for democracy and erode the support base of naxalites.
