The Birla Institute of Technology was founded by industrialist Shri B. M. Birla in 1955 as a pioneering institution of technical education and research in the industrial heart Ranchi of the country. BIT is located in a picturesque 780 acre setting at the confluence of rivers Jumar and Swarnrekha. It is situated at a distance of 16 kilometers from Ranchi. It is entirely residential providing accommodation to over 1600 Undergraduate & Post graduate students and about 500 members and faculty staff.
Buildings of the institute which include Laboratories, Lecture Halls, Library, Workshops etc. covering an area more than 350000 sq. feet. It is co-educational with separate hostel accommodation for girls.
In more then 35 years of its existence, this institute has graduated over 11000 Degree holders in Engineering & Technology and over 1000 Post Graduates with various specialisations in Engineering, Pharmacy, Applied Sciences, Computer Applications and Management. This institute has produced even a number of Doctorates (Ph.Ds) in Disciplines of Technology, Management and Sciences. Students from all over the country and even from several countries from Asia and South Africa are attracted towards this
institute.
BIT is a full member of the Association of Indian Universities and its Degrees are recognised through out the world. BIT attained status of a Deemed University under UGC Act in 1986. BIT also has extension centre at Lalpur Chowk, Ranchi for conducting part time courses and computer courses for girls. |

Admission
Procedure |

Admission in BIT is through All India Entrance Examination held at more then 30 centres all over the country. Entrance Tests are held normally on last Saturday & Sunday of May every year.
Advertisements for courses appear normally in the month of January.
Session starts, around last week of July or first week of August.
Admission for NRI & foreign Students : Desirous NRI students may apply on prescribed forms
obtainable from Co-ordinator, Entrance Examination. 10% seats above sanctioned intake in various categories are for
NRI.
A limited number of seats is filled by direct admission for foreign nationals also, who fulfill prescribed eligibility norms. Such applicants must process their application through Indian Missions in their respective countries and the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi. |
