Jamshedpur, 21 September 2026: The Placement Cell of D.B.M.S. College of Education, Jamshedpur, organised a special guidance session today for the B.Ed. Batch 2024–26. Conducted under the guidance of the College Mentor, Dr. Joohi Samarpita, the session aimed to familiarise students with the qualifications, skills and professional expectations essential for selection as teachers in schools.

The session was addressed by Ms. Alka Arvind, Former Principal, Valley View School, and was centred on the topic, “What Qualities Do Schools Look for in a Teacher?”

In her address, Ms. Alka Arvind emphasised that academic qualifications alone are not sufficient for a teacher. Effective communication skills, classroom management, presentation skills, confidence, a positive attitude, professional conduct and the ability to communicate effectively with students are equally important qualities of a successful teacher. She also highlighted the changing expectations of schools in the present educational scenario and shared several practical aspects related to teacher selection and recruitment processes.

She offered valuable guidance to the students on preparing themselves effectively for upcoming interviews and placement opportunities, developing a professional personality, and building the confidence and practical skills required for a successful career in the teaching profession.

The B.Ed. Batch 2024–26 students participated enthusiastically in the session and raised several questions on various aspects of teacher recruitment and professional development. The interactive question-and-answer session provided students with an opportunity to understand the real expectations of schools and gain greater clarity about their career pathways.

The programme was conducted with the guidance and support of Mrs. Sripriya Dharmarajan, Secretary; Mrs. Sudha Dilip, Joint Secretary; Dr. Monica Uppal, Principal; and Dr. Pamela Ghosh Dutta, Vice-Principal. The faculty members and support staff also extended their valuable cooperation in making the programme successful.

The programme was compered by Somini, a B.Ed. student, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Eliza, a B.Ed. student.

Ms. Mousumi Dutta, In-charge of the Placement Cell, played a significant role in coordinating and organising the entire programme.

The special session proved to be a valuable learning experience for the prospective teachers, providing them not only with an opportunity to prepare for upcoming placements and interviews but also with a deeper understanding of the professional attitude, behaviour and skills required to become effective and successful teachers.
