Kanchan Nagar Gets a Green Makeover: Tata Steel UISL Develops a Vibrant Community Park
Jamshedpur November 6, 2026:*
In a significant step towards urban beautification, environmental sustainability and community well-being, Tata Steel UISL has transformed an open plot at Kanchan Nagar, Burmamines, opposite the Traffic Training School, into a clean, green and accessible public space.
With a vision to enhance the neighbourhood's green cover and create a welcoming recreational space for residents, Tata Steel UISL undertook comprehensive beautification and development work at the site. The development included the construction of a boundary wall with grill fencing to secure the premises and the installation of a paver block pathway to ensure convenient access and comfortable movement within the park. Existing trees and plants were carefully preserved, with kerb stones provided around their roots to enhance the landscape and maintain the greenery. The ground was also levelled and the surroundings systematically developed, giving the area a neat, organised and aesthetically appealing look.
Adding an environmental dimension to the initiative, 500 additional saplings were planted as part of BRIC Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026. The plantation drive featured a variety of in-house propagated species, including Bakul, Karanj, Neem, Mahogany, Teak and Bamboo. These predominantly evergreen species are known for their carbon sequestration potential, soil-binding properties and contribution to biodiversity.
Atul Kumar Bhatnagar, Managing Director, Tata Steel UISL, participated in the plantation drive. Senior leadership members and union representatives were also present on the occasion.
Through this initiative, Tata Steel UISL has created a valuable green community space, offering local residents a pleasant setting for daily walks, recreation and community interaction. The initiative reinforces the company's commitment to sustainable urban development and enhancing the quality of life in the communities it serves.
