Eminent speakers emphasise unity, discipline, leadership and excellence
Jamshedpur, August 24, 2026: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur organised an Orientation Programme for the newly admitted first-year students of the 2026 batch on Monday at the Students Activity Centre (TSG Building), formally welcoming the students to their academic journey at the institute.
The programme brought together the institute's senior leadership, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members and other functionaries. The event commenced with the arrival of the distinguished guests and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the National Song and felicitation of the guests.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Prof. Ashok Kumar, Dean (Students' Welfare), welcomed the students and highlighted the opportunities, facilities and responsibilities associated with student life at NIT Jamshedpur. Prof. M. K. Sinha, Dean (Academic), briefed the students on academic excellence, learning opportunities and the importance of actively engaging in the institute's academic environment.
Heads of Departments and faculty-in-charges also briefed the students about their respective academic programmes and various institutional facilities and support services.
Major General Jitendra Singh, VSM, stresses unity and selfless service
Addressing the students, Chief Guest Major General Jitendra Singh, VSM, highlighted the spirit of unity, discipline, leadership and selfless service in the armed forces. Referring to the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War, he emphasised that soldiers from diverse faiths fought together as one nation, demonstrating that national unity and patriotism transcend religious boundaries. He also spoke about the military principle of “Unlimited Liability”, underscoring courage, responsibility and the willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
Director Prof. Goutam Sutradhar calls for excellence and innovation
Director Prof. Goutam Sutradhar welcomed the newly admitted students and encouraged them to make the best use of the academic and research opportunities available at NIT Jamshedpur. He urged the students to pursue excellence, discipline, innovation and responsible citizenship while contributing to the development of the nation.
Col. R. P. Singh highlights discipline and perseverance
Guest of Honour Col. R. P. Singh (Retd.) encouraged the newly admitted students to remain disciplined, focused and committed to their goals. Drawing upon his experiences, he stressed the importance of hard work, character, responsibility and perseverance in achieving success and contributing meaningfully to society and the nation.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the President of the Students' Council, followed by the National Anthem.
As part of the orientation activities, all Heads of Departments were requested to organise interaction sessions with the newly admitted students and faculty members in their respective departments from 3:30 PM onwards. The sessions will help students familiarise themselves with their departments, faculty members, academic programmes and the overall learning environment.
The Orientation Programme marked the beginning of a new academic chapter for the 2026 batch, with NIT Jamshedpur welcoming the students and encouraging them to pursue knowledge, innovation, excellence and responsible citizenship throughout their academic journey.
