: On the occasion of World Ozone Day, the Public Health Department of Tata Steel UISL organized a public awareness campaign aimed at environmental protection, ozone layer preservation, energy conservation, and air pollution reduction across the city. As part of this drive, special awareness programs were conducted at Bharat Sevashram School (Sonari), Tata Workers Union School (Kadma), and Netaji Subhash Chandra School (Golmuri), where more than 1500 students actively participated.
Focus on Energy Conservation and Environmental Safety
During the sessions, students were educated on the critical role of the ozone layer, protection against harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, and the impact of ozone-depleting substances like CFCs. They were encouraged to conserve water and energy, reduce single-use plastics, and foster a cleaner environment.
Emphasizing the "Light Off" message, students were advised to build simple habits such as turning off fans and lights when leaving a room, empowering them to become "Change Agents" in their families and community.
"Red Light On – Engine Off" Drive at Bistupur Signal
A key highlight of the campaign was the "Red Light On – Engine Off" initiative held at the Bistupur traffic intersection. Drivers were encouraged to turn off their vehicle engines while waiting at red lights to cut unnecessary fuel consumption and minimize vehicular emissions.
